I Don’t Buy It!

Do you have a soapbox issue? One of those things that just pushes your buttons and you MUST say something? Yep-me, too. If you are not in the mood to listen to my rant, now’s the time to make your escape.

I love words, especially encouraging, life-affirming, joy-filled words! They are important to us and they are important to God. He IS The Word and scripture is full of his promises and words of hope for us. But there are some “uplifting” words I keep seeing and hearing that just are not true: You are enough. That is ridiculous!  And I think we are doing a disservice to all those we say this to.

We are NOT enough. We are broken and flawed and sinful. We are weak. We are thoughtless and self-absorbed. We are so much less than enough.  And, let’s face it; we all know where we are less than.  We suspect that “It may be true for someone else, but it doesn’t apply to me.”

But it’s ok; we don’t have to be enough. We have a great big God who is everything. HE is enough. He is enough to mend, heal, save, strengthen. He is enough to provide, encourage, deliver, restore. He is enough – in every way. And He promises to share that “enoughness” with us as His kids. It’s not ours, though; it’s HIS and if we abide in HIM we rest in enough.

Don’t buy into this world’s egocentric philosophies. They are hollow and tenuous, at best. Trust in the one who IS enough, and live a life that is FAR MORE than enough.

“but He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.’ Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (AMP)
